“Created for the Right to Roam exhibition at the North Yorkshire Moors National Park Centre, this series of work reflects on the freedom to access and connect with shared countryside through direct experience and movement.
The four paintings — Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter — are rooted in specific locations within the National Park, referenced through the coordinates included in each title. Earth, sand and organic matter collected on my walking boots during visits throughout the year have been embedded into the surfaces of the works, becoming part of their physical structure.
Through repeated journeys across moorland, forest and coastline, I become aware of subtle shifts in texture, atmosphere and light — traces of weather, erosion and seasonal change that gradually find their way into the paintings.
Built through layers of natural materials, pigment and oil glaze, the surfaces are slowly developed, scraped back and reworked. The resulting works are intentionally restrained, reflecting the quiet vastness of the landscape and our temporary presence within it.”
